HISTORY of mardi Gras

Mardi Gras is a french term that translates to "fat Tuesday", fat Tuesday was the day before the Catholic fast. It was a day when people would eat and enjoy tons of food and celebrate. Some speculate the tradition dates back all the way to Roman times.

The first time Mardi Gras was celebrated in the United states was in 1703 and since then has gotten bigger and bigger though the annual event. The holiday is the biggest celebration in the world and held in almost every country.

Enjoy hundreds of floats that are decorated in bright colors and stand out. They have masked people aboard who throw necklaces, and other goodies to the streets. Each year a Mardi Gras king and queen are selected.

Just like Mardi Gras in New Orleans we too have a Mardi Gras king and queen and a duke a duchess. They represent to the community people who give back and who go the extra mile.
