About Nevada theatre

The Nevada Theatre has been operational since 1865. Located in the original building, the theatre is the oldest existing theater building in California. Though the building has had updates and renovations several times over the years, the history is still very apparent. Because of the fascinating history and great shows, the Nevada Theatre is one of the most popular local attractions.

Operated by the non-profit Nevada Theatre Commission, the Nevada City Theatre hosts live theatrical plays and concerts put on by local production companies. Some popular local production companies include LeGacy Productions, Sierra Stages, Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra, and Paul Emery Presents. These companies introduce new actors to the stage and provide world-renowned entertainment.

Along with plays, musicals, and concerts, the Nevada Theatre is also a venue for other events such as film festivals, magic shows, and community events.

CELEBRITIES ON STAGE

Because the Nevada Theatre is so old, it has had plenty of time to rack up celebrity performances. Some notable celebrities on the stage include Lotta Crabtree, Mötley Crüe, Jack London, Emma Nevada, Mark Twain, and the Second City comedy troupe. Celebrity concerts don't happen often, so when one comes around, be sure to reserve your seat quickly.

Don't miss out on the group-friendly, historic Nevada Theatre while visiting Nevada City, California.

The theater, although the building is old and very historic, has freshly carpeted aisles, comfortable seats, an accessible restroom, and good vibes. Every seat is a good one in this intimate hall. Local production companies keep the theater busy continuously. Always something interesting happening at Nevada Theater.

Saw a great play here, loved the orchestra, sound was good and no bad seats in the theatre. Wine, soda, water, and snacks at intermission. Play was well orchestrated and actors did a great job! I suggest buying tickets in advance. They also have assigned seating so you don't have to show up hours in advance.

I have been to this theatre many times and just love it. I thouroughly enjoy attending the Christmas plays there. The theatre is one of a kind and a historic landmark. It's like going back in time and a must see for those who appreciate the historic significance of California mining days.
